On show in the project room of Galerie Anhava are two works by Santeri Tuori consisting of black and white photographs and video projections from his series "Through a Looking Glass". The works, "Yumiko" and "Theodore", were photographed in New York in 2005.
Tuori asked his subjects to place themselves before a one-way mirror, photographing them from the other side. The viewer has eye contact with the subject, but in reality their gazes do not meet; the subject does not look back at the viewer but at his or her own reflection in the mirror. Awareness of the arrangement places the viewer in a confusing situation, in which the meeting of the gaze is only apparent. A central theme of the works is viewing and being viewed.
