Mari Sunna is a special painter. Each one of even her smallest "sausage paintings" reveals immediately whose mind and hand are responsible for it – precisely this kind of brushwork, sudden power, softness and precision cannot be created by anyone else.
And yet she continues to renew her art. It always exciting to see her new work, and she always manages to surprise the viewer, with new subjects, new ways of painting and new emotion. Every exhibition of work by Mari Sunna is an event, and almost six years have passed since her last showing at Galerie Anhava.
In the meantime, Mari Sunna has been featured in a major touring exhibition at EMMA - Espoo Museum of Modern Art, the Turku Art Museum, and the Eskilstuna Art Museum in Sweden. In 2008, she also held an exhibition at the Otto Dix Haus in Germany. Books of both of these exhibitions were published. Mari Sunna also held a solo exhibition at The Approach gallery in London in 2008.
Mari Sunna was awarded the esteemed Ducat Prize of the Finnish Art Society in 2007.
