| Jani Hänninen's
(born 1974) paintings are of the present day. They refer to places
that I do not know (and where I probably wouldn't dare to go)
and often to states of mind that I would not necessarily want
to experience. Yet nonetheless… even though the subject matter
seems quite dismal, the painting itself has such drive and joy
of self-expression that hopelessness turns into living hope. These
paintings are direct and unbridled and full of calculated risks
like a skateboarder's lipslide into a rail. |
